Heavy Rainfall Alert for Telangana and Hyderabad : IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Several Regions

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall across Telangana over the next four days. According to the Hyderabad Weather Center, a trough extending from Rayalaseema to the Comorin area is active at an altitude of 0.9 kilometers above sea level, contributing to the ongoing showers in various parts of the state. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for several districts, warning residents to prepare for potentially severe weather conditions.

Four-Day Rain Forecast for Telangana

The Hyderabad Weather Center has predicted that Telangana will experience light to moderate rainfall over the next four days. This weather pattern is attributed to a trough that is currently extending from Rayalaseema to the Comorin area, creating favorable conditions for rain. The city of Hyderabad and surrounding regions have already seen significant rainfall, with more expected to follow. According to the IMD, the skies will remain overcast, and thunderstorms are likely to occur until August 17th. Winds are expected to gust at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour during the rain.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert Amidst Heavy Rainfall Forecast

Given the forecasted heavy rains, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and several other districts in Telangana. The alert is in effect for Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, Mancherial, Jagtial, Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Kamareddy, Medak, Hanamkonda, Mulugu, Malkajgiri, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, and Jogulamba Gadwal. These regions are expected to receive considerable rainfall in the coming days.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Mahabubabad recorded the highest rainfall on August 13th, with 93.5 millimeters. In Hyderabad, the maximum rainfall recorded was 9 millimeters in the Maredpally area.

Anticipated Increase in Rainfall Across Telangana

The IMD’s forecast for the next four days indicates a significant increase in rainfall across Telangana, which includes both the city of Hyderabad and its surrounding districts. The varying weather conditions in the Greater Hyderabad region have led to a mix of heat and humidity in some areas, while others have experienced moderate rainfall.

On Wednesday, for instance, Hyderabad saw diverse weather patterns, with Hitec City recording 3.65 centimeters of rain, Shamshiguda 2.68 centimeters, and Mahadevapura registering around 2.25 centimeters. Other areas like Balaji Nagar, KPHB, Jeedimetla, Shaikpet, and Khairatabad recorded rainfall between 1.75 to 3 centimeters.

Moderate Rain Expected in Several Areas

The IMD has also stated that light to moderate rainfall is likely in several parts of Telangana over the next two days. Residents in the affected areas should stay alert to the changing weather conditions and take necessary precautions.

Precautionary Measures During the Yellow Alert

With the yellow alert in place, residents in the affected districts are advised to take precautionary measures to avoid any weather-related hazards. It is essential to stay informed by regularly checking weather updates and following advisories from local authorities. Secure outdoor items that could be displaced by strong winds, and avoid traveling in heavy rainfall unless absolutely necessary. Parents should ensure children are safe indoors, and everyone should avoid standing under trees or near power lines during thunderstorms.

Conclusion: Stay Safe and Informed

As Telangana braces for several days of rainfall, it is crucial for residents to stay vigilant and take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their property. The IMD’s yellow alert serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with heavy rainfall and strong winds. By staying informed and prepared, the people of Telangana can navigate these challenging weather conditions safely.
