Key Violations Found at Lulu Hypermarket Infested Bakery Items: Inspectors found 10 kg of Atta Bread Mix and 15 kg of loose Baguette Bread Mix infested, leading to their immediate disposal. Expired Food Products: Large quantities of expired food, including 20 kg of Sesame Seeds, 20 liters of Toned Milk, Biscuit packets, 7.5 kg of Glaze, 5 kg of Gems, and 2 packets of Fruit Juice, were discarded. Lack of Updated FSSAI Licence: The hypermarket failed to display the updated Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license at the entrance. Presence of Houseflies: Houseflies were observed near the meat storage area, indicating poor sanitation practices. Compliance in Other Areas: Despite the violations, some aspects of compliance were noted. Workers in the food section wore appropriate hair caps, gloves, masks, and uniforms, and 40 FoSTaC trained supervisors were present on site. Pest control records and medical fitness certificates for food handlers were available. Official Response and Future Actions The Food Safety Commissioner announced that a notice would be issued to Lulu Hypermarket, and further actions would be taken based on the violations observed during the raid. The task force conducted these inspections in the Kukatpally area on June 26, 2024. Unhygienic Conditions Found at JNTU Hyderabad Canteen Simultaneously, the JNTU Hyderabad canteen, operated by Sri Sri caters, was found to be in gross violation of hygiene standards. The inspection revealed several lapses that compromised food safety. Major Violations at JNTU Canteen Inadequate Hygiene Practices: Food handlers were not using essential protective gear such as hedgers, aprons, and gloves. Improper Food Storage: Semi-prepared food items and cut vegetables were left open and unlabeled, exposing them to contamination. Unhygienic Kitchen Conditions: The kitchen premises were in a deplorable state, with food waste discarded directly on the floor. Lack of Pest Control: The kitchen lacked insect-proof screens, and the door was inadequate for preventing pest entry. Improper FSSAI Licence: Similar to Lulu Hypermarket, the canteen also had an improper FSSAI license. Additionally, medical fitness and pest control records were not available. Immediate Consequences and Future Steps The findings at the JNTU canteen underscore the need for stringent hygiene practices in food service establishments. Authorities have indicated that corrective actions will be taken to address these violations.
