Telangana State Agricultural Department Clarifies Loan Waiver or Runamafi in Telangana 2024 for Farmers

The Telangana State Agricultural Department has issued a statement addressing the concerns surrounding the ongoing farmer loan waiver process. Eligible farmers need not worry, as the government is committed to ensuring that all eligible loan amounts are waived.

Loan Waiver Progress and Details

The government has already waived loans up to ₹2 lakhs for eligible farmers within a month. Approximately 2.2 million farmers have benefited, with ₹18,000 crores credited to their loan accounts.

On July 18th, loans up to ₹1 lakh were waived, and by July 30th, loans between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.5 lakhs were also covered. By August 15th, loans ranging from ₹1.5 lakhs to ₹2 lakhs were waived. The department urges farmers not to believe the false propaganda that the government has only used ₹18,000 crores out of the allocated ₹31,000 crores for loan waivers.

Ongoing Loan Waiver Process

The loan waiver process is still ongoing. According to the guidelines, in the final phase, the waiver will also cover loans exceeding ₹2 lakhs. For instance, if a farmer has a loan of ₹2.10 lakhs, they will need to deposit the additional ₹10,000 into their bank account. The government will then credit the remaining ₹2 lakhs. This will increase the total loan waiver amount, ensuring complete debt relief for all eligible farmers.

Verification and Eligibility

So far, the government has waived loans up to ₹2 lakhs for farmers whose bank accounts, Aadhaar numbers, and passbooks are in order. There is no doubt that every eligible farmer family has received this loan waiver.

Accounts with issues such as incorrect Aadhaar numbers, passbooks without numbers, or mismatches between names in the bank account and Aadhaar are still pending. The government has provided an opportunity for farmers to rectify these issues by contacting their local Mandal Agricultural Officer (MAO). Once these discrepancies are resolved, the government will credit the loan waiver funds to the respective accounts.

Technical Issues and Resolution

Due to technical reasons, funds credited to approximately 22,000 accounts were returned. The Agricultural Department is actively identifying and correcting these minor issues. So far, funds have been re-credited to 8,000 accounts.

Steps for Farmers with Unresolved Loans

Farmers with loans up to ₹2 lakhs who have not yet received the waiver should contact their local MAO to understand the reason. For instance, if the issue is the absence of an Aadhaar number, they should promptly submit their Aadhaar card to the MAO.

If a farmer with a loan under ₹2 lakhs still has not received the waiver, they should file a complaint with the MAO of the Mandal where the bank branch is located. The farmer’s information will be available on the loan waiver portal, including the reason for the waiver’s status.

Correcting Discrepancies

If there is a mismatch between the farmer’s name in the Aadhaar and bank account, they must submit an updated Aadhaar card with the correct name. By uploading these documents to the portal, farmers will become eligible for the loan waiver.

If a complaint is based on the lack of family verification, the MAO will conduct field verification. They will visit the farmer’s home, record the details of the family members holding loan accounts, and upload the information to the portal.

Timeline for Resolution

The Agricultural Department has committed to resolving all applications received from farmers within a month, ensuring that every eligible farmer benefits from the loan waiver.
