Musi River Development from Bapughat to Upper Regions DPR Ready in Three Months: Revanth Reddy

The Musi River revitalization project, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, marks a transformative step in reshaping Hyderabad’s urban landscape. This ambitious initiative aims to rejuvenate the Musi River, bringing economic growth and enhanced urban aesthetics, similar to renowned international riverfront projects. Here’s a breakdown of the project’s strategic vision, objectives, and expected impact.

Defining Musi’s Boundaries and Conceptual Design

The development of the Musi River begins with precisely defining its boundaries, allowing the team to craft comprehensive designs, drawings, and a detailed project report (DPR). This clarity is crucial to avoid interruptions to construction and urban planning. Reddy emphasized the importance of a detailed approach, stating, “If we define the available land, we can decide the building structures and plan accordingly.” He acknowledged the need for international expertise, assembling a consortium of companies with global experience to develop a refined design concept.

Economic and Urban Renewal through Musi Revitalization

If left unattended, Reddy warns, the Musi River could become a detriment to Hyderabad, worsening urban conditions. However, with revitalization, the river can catalyze economic growth and turn Hyderabad into a model city, on par with Seoul and other international urban centers. Reddy affirms, “There will be no compromise in Musi’s development; we will ensure it’s transformed into an impressive landmark.” Drawing inspiration from Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon restoration and Han River development, Reddy envisions a vibrant riverfront with economic potential for Hyderabad.

Initial Development: From Bapu Ghat to the Upper Stream

The Musi project’s first phase will cover a 21-kilometer stretch, from Bapu Ghat upwards, with world-class standards. Reddy, renowned for his thorough planning, emphasized his commitment to consulting with all stakeholders, gathering diverse perspectives before taking action. He challenged opposition parties to present their vision, stating, “If you have a vision document, share it with us. I am open to discussions, whether with Hyderabad and Rangareddy district ministers, the Chief Secretary, or opposition members.” Confident in his role, he expressed that his primary goal is state development, allocating his time and energy solely toward this cause.

Consortium for DPR Design: Collaborating with Global Experts

The government has entrusted an international consortium of five reputed consulting firms with creating the Musi River DPR. This project, valued at INR 141 crore, will include designs, blueprints, construction models, and financial frameworks. The project area will also accommodate a farmers’ market, ensuring alternative sites for vendors and protecting local interests. Reddy assured that “all residents, including small business owners, will have dedicated marketplaces to continue their livelihoods.” Once complete, the Musi River area will host night markets and entertainment centers, contributing to Hyderabad’s growing economy.

Addressing Concerns and Open Dialogue

Reddy has welcomed constructive feedback from those with concerns or suggestions. He urged that any knowledge of cost-effective solutions be shared, noting, “If anyone has practical insights, based on your experience and knowledge, let us know.” Comparing this project to other ambitious regional efforts, he referenced projects where displaced communities received adequate housing, compensation, and alternative employment options, underlining the commitment to support Musi River’s nearby residents.

Through the Musi River project, Hyderabad aims to establish itself as a thriving, economically dynamic city with a revitalized river at its heart, promoting sustainable growth and enhanced quality of life
