Hyderabad lake encroachment demolition from HYDRAA

Hydra demolitions at Lakshmi Srinivasa Construction (Villas) in Mallampet under Dundigal Municipality, HYDRAA’s Aggressive Action Against Illegal Constructions in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal constructions across various areas in Hyderabad, including Dundigal, Madhapur, and Ameenpur. This ongoing operation targets encroachments that have violated municipal and environmental regulations, particularly around sensitive water bodies and buffer zones.

HYDRAA’s Ongoing Demolition Drive

HYDRAA’s aggressive demolition drive is aimed at clearing unauthorized constructions that have sprung up in violation of local laws. In the Dundigal municipality, HYDRAA has taken action against illegal villas constructed in the buffer zones of the Mallampet Kathva Cheruvu lake. Officials had previously identified these violations, prompting the demolition of Lakshmi Srinivasa Constructions’ villas on Sunday morning, under heavy police protection.

Illegal Constructions in Madhapur and Sunnam Cheruvu

The demolition spree continued in Madhapur, where illegal structures around the 26-acre Sunnam Cheruvu lake were also brought down. Officials demolished several sheds and buildings that had been constructed within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones. The illegally occupied survey numbers 12, 13, 14, and 16 witnessed the removal of dozens of makeshift structures used for business purposes. Once again, these demolitions took place amid tight security.

Encroachments in Ameenpur Municipality

In the Ameenpur municipality of Sangareddy district, HYDRAA has also been working to clear illegal constructions in the HMT Colony and Vaninagar areas. With the support of revenue and municipal officials, demolitions continued in these locations, targeting unauthorized structures in ecologically sensitive zones.

HYDRAA Targets High-Profile Encroachments

Apart from these actions, HYDRAA is taking bold steps against encroachments by high-profile individuals and companies. Notably, constructions linked to former MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy have been targeted in this crackdown. Additionally, HYDRAA has issued directives to Jayabheri Constructions, a company owned by actor Murali Mohan, to remove encroachments around the Rangalal Kunta pond in Gachibowli’s Financial District. The company has been given 15 days to dismantle the blue sheet walls that encroach upon the FTL and buffer zone.

HYDRAA’s Clear Message to Encroachers

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath has made it clear that the agency will not tolerate encroachments in environmentally sensitive areas. He explained that the walls in question extend two meters into the FTL, which violates local laws. “We have asked them to remove these walls and vacate the buffer zone,” Ranganath stated, adding that the action followed complaints from local residents. While no permanent structures have been built within the lake, HYDRAA is prepared to proceed with further demolitions if these illegal constructions are not removed within the given timeframe.

The Future of HYDRAA’s Enforcement Powers

Currently, HYDRAA is not fully empowered to issue legal notices for such violations. However, the agency is pushing for broader authority, which will allow it to take stronger enforcement actions against future encroachments. This would enable HYDRAA to act more swiftly in clearing illegal structures and protecting Hyderabad’s lakes and water bodies from further exploitation.

Conclusion: A Strong Stand Against Environmental Violations

HYDRAA’s relentless efforts to clear illegal encroachments are a clear message that Hyderabad’s environmental laws will be strictly enforced. With multiple operations already underway, the agency is proving its commitment to protecting the city’s vital water bodies and ensuring that all constructions comply with local laws. This ongoing crackdown on illegal developments is expected to continue, as HYDRAA works to restore the ecological balance and safeguard public land across the region.

The residents of Hyderabad can now expect a cleaner and safer environment, as HYDRAA continues its mission to preserve the city’s natural resources while holding violators accountable.
