Opposition’s Misinformation Campaign One leader, who struggled to waive off a mere one lakh rupees and failed to deliver on his promise to half the farmers, has lost the trust of the agrarian community. Another leader, who has never implemented a loan waiver scheme in any state where he was in power, is now spewing venom against the Congress government, which, within its first crop season, has successfully waived off loans up to two lakh rupees and continues to extend this relief. Congress Government’s Loan Waiver Success The Congress government, under the leadership of Minister Tummala, has taken on the responsibility of waiving loans for every eligible farmer based on the data received from banks. So far, the scheme has been applied to all account holders who have been identified for loan waiver benefits, up to two lakh rupees. Ongoing Process and Future Plans The process of identifying remaining eligible families and waiving their loans is ongoing. For those with loans exceeding two lakh rupees, the government has issued guidelines. According to these, after repaying the amount exceeding the two lakh rupees threshold, the eligible amount will be paid off as per the government’s directives. Moreover, for farmers whose details were incorrectly reported by the banks, the government is taking proactive measures to collect accurate information directly from the farmers themselves. Support for Farmers Beyond Loan Waiver In addition to waiving loans, the government has requested bankers to grant new loans to those farmers who have benefited from the loan waiver scheme. This ensures that farmers continue to receive financial support, enabling them to invest in their agricultural activities and secure a better future. Accountability of Previous Governments To provide transparency, the Congress government has made available the details of the loan waiver scheme as a testimony to its performance, contrasting it with the haphazard implementation by the previous administration.
