Born on May 4, 1960, in the vibrant state of Telangana, Aruna has etched her name in the annals of political history through her unwavering commitment to public service and her remarkable journey through various political affiliations. Let's delve into the life and career of this influential Indian politician. Early Life and Family DK Aruna was born to Ch. Narsi Reddy, a prominent political figure himself. Her journey into politics was paved by her marriage to D.K. Bharathsimha Reddy, a member of a family deeply rooted in the world of Indian politics. Her father-in-law, D.K. Satya Reddy, her husband D.K. Bharatha Simha Reddy, and her brother-in-law D.K. Samara Simha Reddy have all been actively involved in the political landscape. Furthermore, her father Chitlem Narsi Reddy, along with her brothers Chitlem Venkateswar Reddy and Chitlem Ram Mohan Reddy, have played significant roles as Congress workers and legislators. Tragically, Aruna faced adversity when her father and brother, Venkateswar, fell victim to Maoist violence on Independence Day in 2005 while attending celebrations in Narayanpet. Aruna's initiation into public life happened when she became involved with "grievance redressal" sessions held at her husband's family residence, a turning point that would shape her future in politics. Political Career Aruna's political journey was marked by perseverance and resilience. Despite initial electoral setbacks, she secured her place as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Gadwal constituency of Mahaboobnagar district in 2004. It is worth noting that her political affiliation evolved over time. In 2004, D.K. Aruna emerged victorious representing the Samajwadi Party. Subsequently, she represented the Congress party in the 2009 elections. During her time in opposition, Aruna actively participated in significant movements, such as the historic Electricity agitation. She led a Padayatra from Gadwal to the state capital to draw attention to the irrigation water problems faced by farmers in Mahaboobnagar District. Furthermore, she went on an indefinite hunger strike to demand irrigation water for the arid lands of Telangana. Her dedication was further evident as she embarked on a Padayatra from the Jamulamma temple in Gadwal mandal to the Jogulamba temple in Alampur. Later, she organized a two-day hunger strike to protest against the state government's refusal to include Gadwal as part of a new district in September 2016. However, Aruna faced a setback in the 2018 Telangana Legislative Assembly election from Gadwal when she lost to her nephew, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, who represented the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. In March 2019, demonstrating her adaptability, Aruna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Mahabubnagar constituency but narrowly lost by 77,829 votes. Her political journey reached new heights when, in September 2020, she was appointed as the Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, a testament to her dedication and influence in Indian politics.
