This significant event aims to directly benefit over 9.26 crore farmers across India by transferring more than ₹20,000 crores into their bank accounts. Telangana Government Cancels 62,600 2BHK Houses, to Get Indiramma Houses The Telangana state government has taken a decisive step to address the housing crisis by canceling 62,600 sanctioned but unconstructed double bedroom houses (2BHKs) from the previous administration. These houses, allotted during the nine-year tenure of the BRS government, remain unfulfilled, prompting the current Congress-led government to pivot towards the Indiramma housing scheme. Challenges with the Previous 2BHK Initiative Unfinished Projects and Structural Issues During its tenure, the BRS government sanctioned 2.92 lakh 2BHK houses across Telangana, with significant allocations under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Unfortunately, only 1.54 lakh units were completed due to delays, financial discrepancies, and quality concerns. Many completed houses suffered from structural flaws such as water seepage and incomplete amenities, rendering them uninhabitable despite being allotted to beneficiaries. Impact on Beneficiaries and Infrastructure Approximately 20,000 houses, especially in GHMC limits, were allocated hastily before the 2023 Assembly polls, lacking essential services like water and electricity. This led to widespread rejection by beneficiaries, leaving a considerable number of houses unoccupied and deteriorating. The state estimated needing around `300 crore solely to rectify these deficiencies in GHMC-allocated houses. Government Action and the Indiramma Housing Scheme Transition to Indiramma Houses In response to these challenges, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy initiated a thorough survey to assess the status of existing 2BHK projects. The survey revealed that many contractors had abandoned their projects midway due to non-payment by the previous government, necessitating extensive repairs estimated at over `1,000 crore. Consequently, the government opted to cancel the incomplete projects and focus on the Indiramma housing scheme. Future Plans and Implementation The Indiramma housing scheme, slated to commence after the recent election code, aims to construct 4.5 lakh houses across Telangana with an investment of `22,500 crore.
