The opportunity to pursue a B.Tech degree while working full-time is now available. You can balance your job and education by attending weekend classes and completing your engineering degree. Mandatory Polytechnic Diploma Qualification Evening B.Tech Program Approved Nationwide Last academic year, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved evening B.Tech courses across the country for the 2023-24 academic session. A total of 137 engineering colleges received permission to conduct these classes, including Osmania University (OU) Engineering College in the state. While AICTE approved 11 private engineering colleges in the state, they did not receive state government approval last year. This year, however, officials anticipate that these colleges, along with a few others, will get the green light. Rising Demand Among Polytechnic Graduates Polytechnic diploma holders show a strong demand for continuing their education. Around 90% of these students opt for lateral entry into the second year of B.Tech right after completing their diploma, seeking higher salaries and better job opportunities. They believe that delaying their B.Tech or M.Tech could reduce future opportunities, hence they prefer to start immediately after their diploma. In response to the demands of thousands of diploma holders working across the country, AICTE granted approval for evening B.Tech courses starting last academic year. To enroll in these evening courses, a minimum of one year of work experience is mandatory. Students can join directly into the second year of the B.Tech program, with each branch accommodating 30 to 60 seats. Evening Classes and Course Structure Osmania University initiated evening classes in Civil, Mechanical, and AI & ML courses last year, with AICTE approving an additional Electrical branch this year. Each branch offers 30 seats, and classes are conducted on Saturdays and Sundays. A minimum of 10 students per course is required to start the classes. An official stated that by June 10, the number of colleges permitted to offer evening courses this year will be confirmed. The Civil and Mechanical branches received excellent responses last year, with all seats filled, as noted by Professor Sriram Venkatesh, Secretary of the State Higher Education Council and former Principal of OU Engineering College. Telangana Junior Colleges to Commence Academic Year 2024-25 on June 1st The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) has announced the commencement date for the upcoming academic year in junior colleges across Telangana. As per the official academic calendar, classes for both first-year and second-year intermediate students will begin on Saturday, June 1st, 2024. This marks the beginning of a new academic journey for thousands of students who recently passed their Class X examinations. Key Details of the Academic Calendar Start Date: June 1st, 2024 (Saturday) Total Working Days: 227 Number of Holidays: 75 Admission Process: First Phase concludes on June 30th, 2024. A full-fledged admission process in government colleges will begin after the conclusion of intermediate supplementary exams on June 3rd, 2024. College Affiliations: A list of affiliated colleges is available on the TSBIE website: https://tsbie.cgg.gov.in/ Over 420 private junior colleges operating in mixed-occupancy buildings are yet to receive affiliation and await approval from the fire department. Telangana Food Safety Raids Uncover Lapses in Hyderabad Eateries In a recent crackdown on food safety violations, the Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety's task force conducted inspections across Hyderabad and surrounding districts. Over a six-week period, from April 16th to May 27th, 2024, the team inspected a staggering 83 restaurants and eateries. The inspections revealed concerning lapses in hygiene and food safety protocols, prompting stricter enforcement measures from June 1st onwards. Widespread Violations in Popular Eateries The inspections targeted establishments within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, with a focus on popular restaurants and eateries. Alarmingly, 68 out of the inspected businesses exhibited violations. Deputy food controller (Telangana) T Vijay Kumar reported serious offenses, including serving stale meat and vegetables, expired food items, and unhygienic kitchen conditions. The list of offending establishments included well-known names like KFC, Paradise Food Court, Rameshwaram Cafe, and several others. This highlights the pervasiveness of the issue and underscores the importance of stringent food safety regulations. Inspections Reveal Unsanitary Conditions and Adulteration The task force meticulously examined restaurants for adherence to food safety regulations. They identified concerning practices such as adulteration, improper food handling, and lack of proper licensing. Additionally, inspectors discovered outdated or unlabeled food items, heavily infested flour, and a concerning lack of medical fitness certificates at some eateries. Furthermore, inspections revealed troubling hygiene issues in several kitchens, including open windows and clogged drains. These unsanitary conditions pose a significant health risk to consumers.
