His final plea for justice, recorded in a heart-wrenching video, has sparked outrage and highlighted the dire consequences of neglecting farmers' grievances. Destruction of Farmland Ignored Prabhakar's anguish stemmed from the destruction of his three-acre farmland under Survey Nos. 277 and 276. Residents of Poddutur village—Kurapati Kishore, Pentyala Rama Rao, G Nagamalleshwar Rao, Mogili Srinu, and Muthaiah—reportedly damaged his land by digging up the soil with earthmovers. Despite lodging complaints with local authorities, including the Sub-Inspector (SI) and Tahsildar, no action was taken to address the damage. A Heartbreaking Appeal for Justice In a video recorded near Khammam, Prabhakar made an emotional appeal to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. He implored them to intervene and provide justice for his family. Prabhakar expressed his disillusionment, stating that he had voted for the Congress party in hopes of a pro-farmer government but was left with no recourse but to take his own life. Efforts to Seek Help Unheeded Prabhakar's plight had led him to Khammam on Monday, where he hoped to present his case to the District Collector. Unfortunately, he arrived too late as the grievance cell meeting had already concluded. Feeling abandoned and desperate, Prabhakar made the tragic decision to consume pesticide. He then called his family to inform them of his intentions. Immediate Aftermath and Community Impact By the time Prabhakar's family alerted the authorities and reached the location, it was too late. Prabhakar was found deceased, and his body was subsequently transferred to the Government General Hospital in Khammam. A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Tuesday, followed by his last rites. The incident has sent shockwaves through Poddutur village and the surrounding district. In response, the police have established a picket in the village to maintain order and prevent any further incidents. Call for Government Accountability This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for government accountability and prompt action in addressing farmers' grievances. Responsibilities of MPDOs and MPOs As part of the state's district reorganization, new districts were created, including Mulugu, which was established as a separate district on February 16, 2019, by the then Chief Minister KCR. Previously part of the Jayashankar Bhupalpally District, Mulugu now encompasses nine mandals and nearly 300,000 residents. Officials have been tasked with posting Form No. 1 of the Mulugu District Gazette on all village notice boards. Following this, they will gather public opinions and record any objections. The minutes of these meetings will be confirmed by both the Panchayat Special Officer and the Secretary. The process will be overseen by Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) and Mandal Panchayat Officers (MPOs). After completing the village assemblies, mandal-level officials will submit the resolutions to district officers. Sitakka’s Initiative and Public Sentiment The Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, known as the largest tribal festival in the country and the Telangana Kumbh Mela, is held in Mulugu District.
