The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has issued a crucial notification regarding free travel for women passengers. Under the ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme, women can avail of free bus travel, but it is made clear that an original identification card is mandatory.
The ID card must clearly display the passenger’s photo and address. TSRTC MD, Sajjanar, via a tweet, stated that any valid ID card issued by the Central or State Governments would be acceptable. However, he clarified that PAN cards would not be valid for free travel because they do not have an address.
If you don’t have an original card… You’ll have to pay for a ticket!
“Despite repeatedly saying that original ID cards must be shown, some are still showing images on smartphones, photo copies, or color Xeroxes,” the TSRTC management observed. This not only causes inconvenience to the staff but also increases the travel time, causing severe discomfort to other passengers.
“We urge all female passengers to show their original ID card and avail the zero ticket. If you don’t have an original ID card, you must definitely buy a ticket. The Mahalakshmi scheme is applicable only to women of Telangana. Women from other states must travel by paying and buying a ticket.
If you don’t take a zero ticket…
“Some argue with the staff saying, ‘Anyway, it’s free. Why take a zero ticket?’ This is not correct. The state government reimburses the TSRTC based on the issuance of zero tickets. If you travel without a zero ticket… You would be causing a loss to the organization. Hence, every woman must take a zero ticket.
If someone travels without a ticket… If it is identified during the check, the employee is at risk of disciplinary action. Likewise, there is also an opportunity to impose a fine of Rs.500 on the person concerned,” said Sajjanar.
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has urged passengers to display original identification cards when availing themselves of the free travel services provided to women under the ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme. TSRTC noticed passengers showing photocopies of IDs on their smartphones, causing inconvenience and delay. As a result, other passengers are facing severe discomfort.
Women passengers are requested to present their original ID cards to avail themselves of free tickets. If they don’t possess an original ID card, they must buy tickets. The Mahalakshmi scheme is applicable only for women of Telangana state. Women from other states must pay the charges and help by buying tickets.
Some argue with the staff questioning the need to take a zero-ticket when the travel is free. This is not right. The government reimburses the TSRTC based on the issuance of zero tickets. Those who travel without zero tickets cause losses to the institution.
So every woman should take a zero ticket. If they travel without a ticket and get caught in checking, the staff’s job is at risk. There’s also a chance to impose a fine of Rs. 500 on the respective individual. Everyone is requested to cooperate by taking tickets properly, according to a statement from TSRTC.
