Hyderabad, Telangana – August 8, 2024 – In a landmark development, Amgen, a global biotechnology leader, has announced the establishment of a new technology and innovation center in Hyderabad, India. This facility, named Amgen India, will play a pivotal role in accelerating digital capabilities across Amgen’s global operations, furthering its mission to innovate in the biopharmaceutical sector.

Strategic Location in HITEC City

Amgen India will be strategically located in HITEC City, a thriving suburb of Hyderabad, renowned for its cutting-edge advancements in medicine, life sciences, and artificial intelligence (AI). The site, occupying six floors in this bustling tech hub, will accommodate up to 3,000 professionals and is expected to become operational by Q4 2024.

“Amgen has been a pioneer in biotechnology for over four decades, and establishing this new site in India represents a significant milestone in our mission to serve patients with greater speed, confidence, and efficiency,” stated Dr. David M. Reese, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Amgen. “India, with its world-class talent in technology and life sciences, is the ideal location for our new innovation hub.”

Accelerating Innovation and Technology Solutions

Amgen India will focus on developing and scaling new technology solutions that enhance efficiency across the enterprise. The site will create roles in AI, data science, life sciences, and other critical areas, contributing to Amgen’s global capabilities.

Leading the company’s expanded operations in India is Som Chattopadhyay, who has been appointed as the national executive for India.

Accompanying CM Reddy at the meeting with Dr. David Reese and Som Chattopadhyay at Amgen’s R&D site in San Francisco was Telangana Industries Minister, Sri Duddilla Sridhar Babu. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sridhar Babu remarked, “Amgen’s decision to establish Amgen India in Hyderabad is a powerful endorsement of Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem. The government is committed to collaborating with Amgen to ensure their success in this venture.
