Zaheerabad as an Industrial Smart City, Kishan Reddy Expresses Gratitude to Modi Ji

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 12 new Industrial Smart Cities under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP). This significant move comes with an estimated investment of ₹28,602 crore, marking a major leap forward in India’s industrial growth.

Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City: A Major Development in Telangana

Among these newly sanctioned cities, Zaheerabad in Telangana is set to undergo a remarkable transformation with a project cost of ₹2,361 crore. This development is part of the Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC) and is poised to become a hub for industries like automobile, electrical equipment, food processing, machinery, metals, and transport equipment. The Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City is expected to create approximately 1,74,000 jobs and attract investments worth ₹10,000 crore.

India’s Vision for a Globally Competitive Economy

Despite ongoing global challenges, India’s total exports, including both merchandise and services, reached an impressive USD 776.68 billion in the fiscal year 2023-24. The government has set an ambitious target of $2 trillion in exports by 2030, in line with its vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). The approval of these 12 new Industrial Smart Cities is a strategic step towards achieving this goal.

National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP)

The 12 Industrial Smart Cities approved by the CCEA are part of the NICDP, an initiative designed to boost India’s industrial infrastructure. These cities will be spread across 10 states, strategically positioned along major industrial corridors to maximize their impact. The states include Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, with Zaheerabad being a key location.

Strategic Location of Zaheerabad Industrial Node

The Zaheerabad Industrial Node, under the Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor, covers 17 villages in Nyalkal and Jharasangam Mandals of the Sangareddy district. The total project area, encompassing both Phase 1 and Phase 2, spans approximately 12,500 acres. Phase 1 alone, covering 3,245 acres, will be developed under the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) framework with an investment of ₹2,361 crore.

Connectivity and Infrastructure

Zaheerabad’s strategic location makes it an ideal site for industrial development. The city is situated near the 4-lane NH-65, which connects Pune to Machilipatnam, and is just 9 km north of Zaheerabad town and 80 km northwest of Hyderabad. The Industrial Smart City is also close to Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (65 km), the Proposed Regional Ring Road (48 km), and Bidar Town in Karnataka (10 km).

Moreover, the area is well-connected through multiple roads and railways. The 2-lane SH-14 (Zaheerabad – Bidar) is 2 km away, and the 2-lane SH-16 (Nizampet – Bidar) runs adjacent to the site. The Metalkunta Railway Station is 12 km from the site, and Zaheerabad Railway Station is 19 km away. The site is also 125 km from Shamshabad’s international airport and strategically close to major seaports—600 km from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai and 620 km from Krishnapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh.

Industrial Opportunities and Future Prospects

Zaheerabad’s inclusion in the Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor highlights its potential as a key industrial hub in South India. The development of the Zaheerabad Industrial Area (ZIA) in Sangareddy district is a priority under the HNIC, aimed at enhancing industrial growth and creating substantial employment opportunities in the region.

The city’s strategic location, coupled with robust infrastructure and connectivity, makes it an attractive destination for investors. The government’s commitment to developing these Industrial Smart Cities is expected to drive significant economic growth, making Zaheerabad a pivotal player in India’s industrial landscape.

In conclusion, the approval of Zaheerabad as an Industrial Smart City marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse. With the potential to generate massive employment and attract substantial investments, Zaheerabad is set to play a crucial role in realizing the government’s vision of a self-reliant and globally competitive India.
