The Telangana government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has sanctioned a massive ₹826 crore for the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (HCITI) program. This project is focused on streamlining traffic and enhancing road infrastructure in Hyderabad, particularly around KBR Park. As one of the most critical traffic zones in the city, the area requires modern solutions to address its growing traffic demands. The HCITI initiative will play a pivotal role in making traffic flow smoother and more efficient across six major junctions.
HCITI Program to Revolutionize Hyderabad’s Road Network
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking a leading role in the development and implementation of this comprehensive infrastructure upgrade. As part of the HCITI program, GHMC has begun designing infrastructure projects aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving the overall road network in Hyderabad.
The plan involves transforming six key junctions around KBR Park into traffic-efficient zones. These junctions are notorious for heavy traffic, especially during peak hours due to their strategic locations connecting critical parts of the city such as Madhapur, Hitec City, Gachibowli, and Kondapur. The main objective of the HCITI program is to ensure seamless traffic movement by eliminating bottlenecks and traffic signals.
Signal-Free Traffic Around KBR Park
One of the significant aspects of the HCITI program is its innovative design to create conflict-free traffic zones around KBR Park. This will be accomplished by constructing a combination of underpasses and flyovers that will facilitate smooth vehicular movement. Traffic moving in a clockwise direction will navigate through underpasses, while traffic moving counterclockwise will be directed over flyovers. This design eliminates the need for traffic signals, allowing vehicles to flow uninterrupted through the area.
To further mitigate traffic issues, particularly during the monsoon season, GHMC has incorporated rainwater retention structures in the underpasses. This precaution ensures that these areas will not turn into bottlenecks due to waterlogging, maintaining smooth traffic flow even during heavy rains.
Strategic Grade Separators at Key Junctions
The roads surrounding KBR Park are essential traffic arteries that connect various parts of the city. These roads witness a heavy influx of vehicles daily, especially as they serve as gateways to prominent software hubs. To tackle this, the HCITI program will install grade separators at six crucial junctions. These grade separators, which include both underpasses and flyovers, are designed to ensure that traffic flows freely across these busy intersections.
Two grade separators will be constructed as part of the first phase of the project, costing ₹421 crore. The second phase, involving the construction of four additional grade separators, will require ₹405 crore.
Detailed Plans for the Six Junctions Around KBR Park
Each of the six junctions around KBR Park will undergo significant transformation to ensure smoother traffic flow. Here’s a breakdown of the planned infrastructure for each junction:
- Jubilee Hills Checkpost Junction
- A Y-shaped underpass will connect Road No. 45 to KBR Park and Yousufguda.
- A four-lane flyover will facilitate traffic from KBR Park towards Road No. 36.
- A two-lane flyover will provide a direct connection from Yousufguda to Road No. 45.
- KBR Park Entrance and Mugdha Junction
- A two-lane underpass will connect the Checkpost to the Cancer Hospital.
- A three-lane unidirectional underpass will allow smooth flow from Punjagutta to the Checkpost.
- A three-lane underpass will link the KBR Entrance Junction to Punjagutta.
- Road No. 45 Junction
- A two-lane underpass will be built from Film Nagar Junction to the Checkpost.
- A two-lane flyover will carry traffic from the Checkpost towards Road No. 45.
- Film Nagar Junction
- A two-lane underpass will be constructed to connect Maharaja Agrasen Junction with Road No. 45 Junction.
- A two-lane flyover will be built from Film Nagar Junction to Maharaja Agrasen Junction.
- Maharaja Agrasen Junction
- A two-lane underpass will facilitate traffic from Cancer Hospital to Film Nagar Junction.
- A two-lane flyover will connect Film Nagar Junction to Road No. 12.
- Cancer Hospital Junction
- A two-lane underpass will connect KBR Park to Maharaja Agrasen Junction.
- A two-lane flyover will be constructed from Maharaja Agrasen Junction to Road No. 10.
