In the wake of severe rainfall and floods across the Telugu states, Indian Railways has announced the cancellation of 432 trains. The South Central Railway reported that the ongoing weather conditions have necessitated these cancellations. Additionally, 140 trains have been rerouted, and 13 others have been partially canceled. Among those canceled are several Superfast and Express trains, along with numerous passenger services.
Impact on Major Trains
Due to the heavy rainfall, several key train services have been canceled. This includes critical Superfast and Express routes, which play a vital role in connecting different regions. The widespread cancellations have disrupted travel plans for many passengers, particularly in flood-affected areas.
Extensive Bus Service Cancellations
In addition to the disruptions in train services, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has canceled over 560 bus services. This includes 160 buses in Khammam, 150 in Warangal, and more than 70 in Ranga Reddy districts. The heavy floods have particularly affected the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route, a crucial national highway, leading to these extensive cancellations.
Train Diversions Due to Flooding
Several trains have been diverted due to the floods, affecting routes and stopping points. For example, Train No. 12295, which usually operates between SM VT and Danapur, has been rerouted. Similarly, Train No. 00629 from Yesvantpur to Tuglakabad has been diverted through alternative routes, skipping several stations between Vijayawada and Royapuram.
Revised Routes and Stoppage Eliminations
The revised routes have resulted in the elimination of several stoppages, particularly between Vijayawada, Gudivada, and Nidadavolu. Passengers who rely on these stations will face significant inconvenience due to these changes.
South Central Railway’s Response
A. Sridhar, the Chief Public Relations Officer of South Central Railway, has been actively communicating the changes. The Railway authority has issued revised bulletins to notify passengers about the route changes and cancellations. Efforts are being made to assist stranded passengers, including the provision of alternative transport where possible.
The ongoing floods have caused widespread disruption across the Telugu states, impacting both rail and road transport. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are working to restore normalcy as soon as possible. Passengers are advised to check for updates before commencing their journeys.
