The Bengaluru-Chennai Greenfield Expressway is poised to transform the connectivity and economic landscape between these two major cities. Spearheaded by the Union Road Transport Ministry, this ambitious project will significantly reduce travel time and fuel consumption, enhancing regional development and industrial growth.
Significance of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway
The newly constructed Bengaluru-Chennai expressway is ready for inauguration, as confirmed by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. This state-of-the-art national highway, built at a cost of ₹17,930 crores, is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year. With this expressway, the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai will be slashed to just five hours, a significant improvement over the previous travel duration.
Key Features and Construction Phases
The expressway spans 262 kilometers, with 110 kilometers falling within Karnataka, while the remainder traverses Andhra Pradesh and enters Tamil Nadu. This four-lane highway will facilitate seamless travel and support the development of industrial corridors along its route.
Phase One: Hoskote to Bethamangala
The first phase covers a distance of 62.6 kilometers, connecting Hoskote in Bengaluru to Bethamangala in Karnataka. This stretch will feature advanced road infrastructure to ensure smooth and efficient transportation.
