Naming Nekarikallu and Chejerla Project as Sri Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Balancing Reservoir

Recalling the services rendered by Late Sri Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh to the State, Government hereby agrees to name the balancing reservoir between Nekarikallu and Chejerla as “Sri Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Sagar”

The Chief Engineer, Nagarjuna Sagar Project, Hill Colony, Nalgonda has submitted that the Superintending Engineer, NSJC O&M Circle, Lingamguntla furnished an estimate for “carrying out detailed survey, investigation and finalization of design for formation of balancing reservoir between Chejerla and Kunkalagunta villages on NSJC” for Rs 33.00 lakhs. Hence, he has requested to accord administrative approval for Rs 33.00 lakhs under Head of Account “MH 4700-01-129 NSP GH 11 NS Plan SH 27 CAD 270-272 Mte” against a Budget provision of Rs 603.95 lakhs.

The Chief Engineer, Nagarjunasagar Project has further submitted that the proposed Balancing reservoir between Chejerla and Kunkalagunta villages i.e between Km 80.000 to Km 85.000 of Nagarjunasagar Jawahar Canal is for supply of drinking water to Narasaraopet, Chilakaluripet and nearby villages and Guntur Municipal Corporation by gravity. The proposed Balancing reservoir can also serve the irrigation supplies to the nearby contemplated ayacut whenever water drawls become not possible from Buggavagu reservoir either because of breaches on upstream side or some other reasons.

As the NagarjunasagarJawaharCanal system was already completed and water is being supplied to the drinking water needs and irrigation under NagarjunasagarJawaharCanal command area, the balancing reservoir is to be taken up as a developmental activity to improve the system and moreover no extra drawals would be involved after forming the proposed reservoir. Hence, no hydraulic clearance is required.

In view of the above mentioned advantages in the operation and water regulation of canal system under Nagarjunasagar Right canal, the Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation) has submitted that the scheme can be considered for according approval.
