HMWSSB Ensures Ample Drinking Water Supply in Hyderabad for Summer

In anticipation of the scorching summer months ahead, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) reassures residents of Hyderabad and the Outer Ring Road (ORR) areas about uninterrupted drinking water supply. With a proactive approach and strategic planning, HMWSSB aims to meet the escalating water demand efficiently.

Meeting Water Demand: Present and Future

At present, HMWSSB supplies 565 million gallons of water daily, ensuring a steady flow to meet current needs. Recognizing the impending surge in demand, an additional 15 to 20 MGD (million gallons per day) of water is estimated to be required. To address this, HMWSSB is proactively making alternative arrangements to meet the forthcoming demand.

Ensuring Operational Efficiency

In a recent review meeting, HMWSSB officials were tasked with evaluating the performance of borewells under their jurisdiction. Any necessary repairs will be swiftly carried out under the Annual Maintenance System (AMS) to optimize operational efficiency. Moreover, plans are underway to augment the existing 70 filling stations with three additional stations. Additionally, the number of tankers and trips will be increased as needed to mitigate any potential disruptions caused by power outages or equipment malfunctions.

Preventive Measures and Contingency Plans

With an emphasis on proactive measures, HMWSSB is gearing up to prevent sewage overflow on roads during the summer months. A comprehensive action plan is being devised to combat the risk of water contamination, ensuring the supply of safe and potable water to residents. Furthermore, ongoing efforts to complete Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are in their final stages, underscoring HMWSSB’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Community Engagement and Special Initiatives

In observance of the Ramzan month, special arrangements will be made to facilitate water supply to mosques through dedicated tanker services. Moreover, special attention will be given to areas experiencing water leakage or infrastructure issues, ensuring swift resolution to enhance service delivery.
