The Director (R), Directorate of Light Houses & Light Ships, Ministry of Shipping (Government of India) Visakhapatnam has, informed that the Light House at Bheemunipatnam is under the Administrative Control of the State Government and it is an important land mark to the marine and local fishermen community. He has reported that the Light House has become very old and has been reporting failures frequently. The Director, Directorate of Light Houses & Light Ships has therefore, requested the Port Authorities to handover the Bheemunipatnam Light house to Government of India with all its accessories and necessary document etc., in order to replace the existing Light House by constructing a new Light House which shall be helpful to the mariners and local fishermen community. The Director, Directorate of Light Houses and Light Ships, Ministry of Shipping, has also informed that the Government of India have decided to taken over the Bheemunipatnam Light house from the State Government and to improve the tower.
The Director of Ports, Kakinada in the reference has stated that after taking over the Bheemunipatnam Lighthouse, the Central Government are constructing new Light House with modern equipment for better range and long visibility. The New Light House will be under the Administrative control of the Government of India and will be maintained by the Central Government funds. The State Government will be completely relieving of the burden of incurring any expenditure on the Light House. The Director of Ports, Kakinada has further informed that there will be no problem of staff adjustment if the Bheemunipatnam Lighthouse is transferred to Government of India since there are no sanctioned posts for Bheemunipatnam Light House at present, and it is being maintained by the staff of Bheemunipatanam Port Office.
The Director of Ports, Kakinada has therefore requested the Government to issue necessary orders to handover the Bheemunipatnam Lighthouse with all accessories and the 101.25 Sqm., of land in which the Lighthouse is situated to the Government of India, Ministry of Shipping and Transport and Highways, Visakhapatnam permanently, so that Government of India can construct a new Lighthouse in place of the existing Lighthouse, and administer the Light House.
4. Government have carefully examined the proposal of the Director (R), Directorate of Light Houses and Light Ships, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India and the report of the Director of Ports, Kakinada, and here by accord permission to the Director of Ports, Kakinada for handing over the Bheemunipatnam Lighthouse with all its accessories, along with the land to the extent of 101.25 Sqm., in which the Bheemunipatnam Lighthouse is situated, to the Director of Light Houses and Light Ships, Government of India, Ministry of Shipping and Transport and Highways, Visakhapatnam, for constructing a new Lighthouse in its place, to be owned, and administered by the Government of India.
The Director of Ports, Kakinada shall take necessary action accordingly under intimation to the Government.
