MLCs as Members of Hospital Development Societies in District


Orders were issued reconstituting Hospital Development Societies in all Teaching Hospitals, District Hospitals, Area Hospitals, Community Health Centers, other Government Hospitals and Primary Health Centers in the state. All Members of Parliament whose constituency lies wholly or partly in the District and 2-3 Members of Legislative Assembly (who are nominated by the incharge District minister are members of the Hospital Development Societies in Teaching Hospitals and District Hospitals; whereas, the Members of Legislative Assembly are Chairpersons of the Area Hospitals and Community Health Centers which fall in their Assembly Constituency.

While answering the LCQ No.4294 (S) in A.P. Legislative Council on 12.10.2010, the Hon’ble Minister for HM&FW department has assured the house (Assurance No.286) that the issue of inclusion of Members of Legislative Council as Members of Hospital Development Societies will be examined.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh after examination of the matter and keeping in view that the territorial jurisdiction of the Members of Legislative Council fall in more than one districts, have decided to include the Members of Legislative Council as members of Hospital Development Societies of District Hospitals in one of the Districts under his/her territorial jurisdiction or his/her native district as per his/her option.

The Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare and the Commissioner, APVVP shall take necessary action accordingly.
