Establishment of Footwear Design & Development Institute branch in the Andhra Pradesh State


The Secretary & Executive Director, Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) has informed that keeping in view the contribution of Footwear Design & Development Institute in the growth of leather and footwear sector, the Government of India, under the 12th Five Year Plan is contemplating to establish branches of the Footwear Design & Development Institute to cater the growing need of non leather & leather footwear, retail & leather product sector. Each branch shall entail Central investment of approx. Rs.100 – 125 crores, and stated that keeping in view the status of Fashion/Retail/Footwear/Leather Goods industry in Andhra Pradesh State, it is gathered that establishment of one full fledged campus of Footwear Design & Development Institute shall be a major boost to the Fashion, Retail, Footwear and Leather & Leather products industry and to provide employment opportunity in Andhra Pradesh State and requested to indicate Government’s interest for the same and if so, suitable land having an area of 15-20 acres shall be needed to be provided by the State for the purpose along with support infrastructure and this will besides employment generation, establishment of Footwear Design & Development Institute will also give additional momentum to the trade & entrepreneur to establish their industry in the State and in turn will also improve the infrastructural facility within the State.

The Vice Chairman & Manager Director, Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (LIDCAP), Hyderabad vide reference  has stated that it is a good opportunity for the State to receive such offer of setting up of Footwear Design & Development Institute in the State and informed that the Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited is having 37 acres of land at H.S.Darga near Gachibowli area, Hyderabad. This is more suitable for the Training Institute. Footwear Design &
Development Institute will provide training in the latest footwear fashion technology by which,
large no. of leather artisans in the State will get benefited. Footwear industry is growing at a rate of 49% next to leather garments in the Country. This institute can also attract branded footwear industries to the State and lead the State to become one of the leather hubs of India in future. He has stated that Government of Andhra Pradesh can avail the advantage of the proposal of Footwear Design & Development Institute to set up their institute in Hyderab
) In order to connect all the leather related activities, to promote Andhra Pradesh as one of the leather sector hub of the Country, keeping in view of the necessity to set up an institute like Footwear Design & Development Institute, which has been established in 1986 under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce& Industry, Government of India and to provide technical knowledge and professional knowledge to the artisans and entrepreneurs in the leather sector and pave way of growth of Leather industry in the State, the Government of India was informed that State Government would provide necessary land to establish the Footwear Design & Development Institute in Andhra Pradesh and requested for sanction in principle of Footwear Design & Development Institute’s branch in Andhra Pradesh.

4) The Senior Executive Director, Footwear Design & Development Institute vide reference has conveyed that, the Department of Commerce, Government of India has given in-principle approval for setting up of an Footwear Design & Development Institute Center at Andhra Pradesh and requested to initiate the process for transferring of land in the name of Footwear Design & Development Institute.

The Vice Chairman & Manager Director, Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited, Hyderabad has requested the Government to issue orders transferring 15.00 acres of land at the Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited premises as was decided by the Government for establishment of the Footwear Design & Development Institute, Branch in the said land to enable Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited to take up the demarcation of land with exact location through the Survey Settlements & land records and hand it over to the same to Footwear Design & Development Institute.

6) After careful examination of the matter, Government hereby decide to transfer 15.00 acres of land in the Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited premises at H.S.Darga, Gachibowli, Hyderabad to Footwear Design & Development Institute for the purpose of establishment of the Footwear Design & Development Institute, Branch in Andhra Pradesh. However the ownership on the land vests with Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited / Government.

7) The Vice Chairman & Manager Director, Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited, Hyderabad shall take necessary further action in the matter accordingly.G.O.Rt.No. 153 . Dated: 06.03.2013.
