In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of Section 15 of the Right to Information Act, 2005, His Excellency the Governor of Andhra Pradesh is pleased to appoint the following persons as State Information Commissioners in Andhra Pradesh Information Commission from the date of assumption of office.

(1) Sri Varre Venkateshwarlu,

(2) Smt. Lam Thanthiya Kumari,

(3) Sri  Imtiaz Ahmed,

(4) Smt. M. Vijay Nirmala.

Appointment of State Information Commissioners in Andhra Pradesh

The State Information Commissioners shall hold office for five years or the date of attainment of the age of sixty five years whichever is earlier. Their conditions of service shall be as specified in Section 16 of the Right to Information Act, 2005 and rules in force.

A year after Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan returned the file to the government, the latter sent it back, ignoring his objection to the appointments.

With no option left for him, the governor gave his approval to the appointment of former civil judge Imtiaz Ahmed, former zilla parishad member Tantiya Kumari, M. Vijaya Nirmala and V. Venkateswarlu. They were all said to be active in politics.

The government in February 2012 had sent eight names for the appointment as information commissioners. Narasimhan approved four names but rejected four others. He sent the file back to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, advising the government to reconsider the matter.
