Prl. Chief Conservator of Forests (WL) & Chief Wildlife Warden, TS, Hyderabad has submitted that Section 4(1) (bb) of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, provides for appointment of Honorary Wildlife Wardens in order to enlist participation and support of people and community leaders of standing who have interest and capacity to render assistance for cause of nature and wildlife conservation and requested the Government to issue orders for appointing Telangana Wildlife Wardens.
Government, after careful examination of the request of the Prl. Chief Conservator of Forests (WL) & Chief Wildlife Warden, TS, Hyderabad, hereby order appointment of following individuals as Honorary Wildlife Wardens for all the 10 Districts in the State, under Section 4 (i) (bb) of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, subject to the following terms and conditions:-
Telangana Wildlife Wardens
The appointment of Honorary Wildlife Warden shall be for a period of one year, which can be renewed not exceeding 2-3 years at a time, on the recommendation of Wildlife Advisory Board.
The main duty and responsibility of an Honorary Wildlife Warden is to assist wholeheartedly the state organization responsible for wildlife conservation, especially with regard to:
Control of poaching and illegal trade of wild animals and their products Telangana Wildlife Wardens Detection and prosecution of offences under Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972
Preventing damage to wildlife habitat
Identification of areas suitable for declaration as Protected Areas
Dealing with problem of damage to life and property by wild animals and payment of compensation
Carrying the message of conservation to the people and nlisting public support
Any other matter connected with Wildlife conservation entrusted by Wildlife Advisory Board or Chief Wildlife Warden
An Honorary Wildlife Warden appointed shall be deemed to be a public servant within the meaning of Section 21 of Indian Penal Code. Powers to inspect records of licenses issued under Section 47 (b) of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972. Powers if entry, search, seizure and detection under section 50 for prevention and detection of offences under Wildlife Act.
No staff or vehicle support shall be provided to Honorary Wildlife Wardens as a matter of course. However, if circumstances warrant, the department staff shall provide all possible help and assistance. The actual expenses incurred by an Honorary Wildlife Warden on travel by public transport for carrying out duties assigned to him should be reimbursed by the state Government.
