Formation of Gandikota Reservoir across Penna River


Orders were issued according administrative approval for Rs.560.00 crores for formation of Gandikota Reservoir across Penna river with a gross storage capacity of 16.487 TMC and excavation of GNSS Main Canal from km 0.00 to 32.640 and formation of two subsidiary reservoirs Viz., (1) Vamikonda Sagar and (2) Sarvaraja Sagar to store 4.659 TMC of water to irrigate an ayacut of 36,000 acres in Kadapa District under GNSS Phase-I.

Revised administrative approval was accorded for this work for Rs.1455.00 Crores.

The Chief Engineer(Projects), Irrigation, Kadapa in his letters read above has reported that additional items of works, price escalation, reimbursement of seigniorage charges and Labour cess charges etc., necessitated for preparation of 2nd revised estimate.

The Chief Engineer(P), kadapa has reported that the reservoir of Gandikota is being impounded due to receipt of recent rains from local catchment. He has further stated that the villages covered under submergence are to be vacated and that wages and other allowances are to be paid to the Project affected persons. Hence the Chief Engineer(P), Kadapa has stated that the 2nd revised administrative approval is essentially required to meet the expenditure and he has therefore requested the Government, to accord revised administrative approval for Rs.1705.00 Crores.

In the circumstances reported by the Chief Engineer(Projects), Irrigation, Kadapa in the letters read above, Government after careful examination of the proposal hereby accord 2nd revised administrative approval for the work “GNSS Phase-I-Formation of Gandikota Reservoir across Penna River to provide irrigation facilities to 35,000 acres and drinking water to 50,000 population” for Rs.1705.00 crores(Rupees one thousand seven hundred and five crores only) against the 1st revised sanctioned estimate of Rs.1455.00 crores, as per the details annexed to this order.

The expenditure sanctioned in para ( 5 ) above shall be debited to the Head of account “4701 Capital outlay on Major & Medium Irrigation – 01 Major Irrigation Commercial Schemes – 133 GNSS – 26 Dam and Appurtenants – 27 Canals and Distributories – 530 Major works – 531 Other expenditure”.

The Chief Engineer(Projects), Irrigation, Kadapa shall take further necessary action accordingly.
